Archie Roach

I just adore Archie Roach's music. He has three albums: Charcoal Lane, Jamu Dreaming and Looking for Butterboy. His songs are beautifully written - great music, insightful lyrics and a dreamy wistful quality which suit Seachange perfectly. I've heard him perform live twice and I'm surprised that they didn't use more music from him.

Rose Bygrave

In the episode "Love me or leave me", just as Diver Dan is scattering his mother's ashes, the song playing is "The Day That You Were Born" which was written and performed by Rose Bygrave (ex-Goanna). Unfortunately it is not on the soundtrack. It is on the Goanna album "Spirit Returns". Thanks to Pauline for this bit of information! Thanks to Allie38_99 who helped to transcribe the lyrics. Christine Anu

I don't really like the song "Party" by Christine Anu. In my view, "My Island Home" is more SeaChangey. You can read the lyrics here.

Felt

That eerie little song sung in the episode "Head For Water", emphasising Max's possibly self-destructive habit of swimming out far into the horizon. You can read the lyrics here.

Wendy Matthews

I could imagine Max liking some Wendy Matthews songs. Visit a nice Wendy Matthews Web Site. The links below are to the Wendy Matthews Web Site and are not to my site.

For instance, Beloved from her album Ghosts is quite haunting. You can read the lyrics here.

Along similar lines is another song dealing with the loss of a loved one. The day you went away was her most successful song from Lily. You can read the lyrics here.

A slightly happier song is Love will keep me alive. You can read the lyrics here.

A song that reminds me of Diver for some reason is Friday's Child from her album Lily. You can read the lyrics here.

As for other songs, I also like I don't want to be with nobody but you and Quiet Art (this is a very nice little song - just sit back and enjoy)

Natalie Merchant

OK, Natalie Merchant isn't Australian, but, the lyrics to her song "Beloved Wife" from her Tigerlily album are quite beautiful. It's about a man mourning the loss of his wife. You can read the lyrics here.

Enya

To pursue a nautical theme, how about Enya's "Orinico Flow" with its "Sail away, sail away, sail away" theme. You can read the lyrics here. You may want to visit one of the many Enya Pages on the web. Note - Enya is Irish, not Australia. *Grin*

Deborah Conway

Deborah Conway is another Australian singer. Her song "White Roses" is about love, loss, jealousy and sadness.

While I used to go through cultural cringe about Australian music, these days I can honestly say that I think our music industry is coming along nicely. Other great Australian artists include Baby Animals, Clouds, Cold Chisel / Jimmy Barnes, Frente, GANGgajang, Goanna, Hunters and Collectors, Kylie Minogue (yeah yeah I know), Merril Bainbridge, Monique Brumby, Natalie Imbruglia, Paul Kelly, Screaming Jets, Shanley Del, Single Gun Theory, Tina Arena, Weddings Parties Anything.

Australian artists that other people like (and about whom I'm not that crazy) include Kate Cebrano, Ian Moss, Dannii Minogue, Jason Donovan, Savage Garden, John Farnham, Silverchair, Max Sharam, Human Nature and Ben Lee, Skyhooks.
